'Chapters to close' in Croatia's EU accession talks

Croatia will open and close several chapters in its progress towards accession to the European Union (EU) next month, according to a source.
An insider has told Javno.com the procedures will be finalised at the Inter-governmental conference at the end of October.
The "final deal on cigarettes" is expected to be closed next month, the mole said.
"I cannot state exact figures but more than one chapter will be opened and more than one chapter will be closed [on October 30th]," the source is reported to have told the news provider.
Negotiations on fishery are also expected to progress, with the issue set to be the 30th topic to go before the EU's National Committee.
Croatia's hopes of gaining entry to the 27-nation body were recently talked up by its commissioner for enlargement, Oli Rehn.
Speaking in Prague after talks with officials from the Czech Republic - the country which takes over the EU presidency on January 1st 2009 - he predicted 2009 will be "the year of western Balkans and eastern partnership".
