Gearing up for the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Croatia
12 December 2007
Skiing enthusiasts will want to holiday in Croatia next February when the FIS World Cup tour comes to the ski resort of Sljeme.
The ladies and men's events will run on February 15th and February 17th respectively.
This is the most glamorous evening in the skiing world and the circuit visits the world's premier ski resorts as the best skiers compete for the overall Alpine World Cup championship.
Downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super G and combined events all provide exciting action for spectators.
Front runners this year include Austrians Benjamin Raich (currently ranked number one), Nicole Hosp and Thomas Morgenstern.
Sljeme is a popular ski area on the northern slopes of Medvednica hill (1,035m), one of Croatia's nature parks, which is only 15 kilometres from Zagreb.
It features five kilometres of skiing on five runs served by four lifts. Night skiing is usually available. It is particularly good for intermediate skiing but offers runs at all levels.
