Guests can experience truffles in Croatia
20 November 2008
Visitors to Croatia can discover truffles in the small village of Bilopolje which overlooks Orebic on the Peljesac Peninsula, according to a source
During the season for this fungus, the owner of a village household, Mrs Marija Jurkovic gathers four kilograms of black truffles, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board says.
Many tourists visit the area to taste the dishes the mushrooms are prepared with, including pasta and anglerfish carpaccio, making it an unmissable destination.
This strong-smelling fungus is usually found in Istria, which is rich in top-quality white truffles, but Mrs Marija finds many in the countryside near her house, the source reports.
She says: "I have never sold a single gram of truffles, nor wish to do so. They are intended for the enjoyment of my guests and friends who visit.
In the city of Dubrovnik the visitor is provided with a mixture of ancient traditions and a modern culture in the winter months.
