Investment in Croatia 'will be more expensive next year'

The cost of investing in property in Croatia will increase next year for those who are looking to buy a holiday home in the country, according to a property company.

Laws will change in February 2009 making investment easier for foreigners but developers will increase prices as a result, Investment Group Croatia says.

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics recently reported the average price of new apartments was £1,492 per sq m during the first half of 2008.

Andrea Marston, general manager at Investment Group Croatia, said people who want to buy in the country will wait until next year to avoid the complicated process.

"The developers are also aware of this and we will see, at some point, some price increases next year," she added.

Statistics show the values of apartments in 2008 have increased by 11.9 per cent compared to the first half of 2007 and 5.2 per cent from the second half.

It has also been revealed there were 2.92 million visitors to Croatia in August 2008 which was an increase of four per cent from the same month in 2007.
