Makarska 'could be set for Canada link'
21 August 2008
A Croatian town could be set to link-up with a Canadian area, according to a source.
Makarska, located within Dalmatia, could be twinned with New Brunswick's Fredericton, reports the Daily Gleaner.
The partnership, which could encourage Canadians to travel to Croatia, has been discussed at a recent meeting between representatives of the two areas, the newspaper states.
Fredericton's mayor, Brad Woodside, told the publication the proposal was "an interesting concept", while ambassador Vesela Korac is thought to have originally put the idea forward.
A meeting between the two was arranged by senator Noel Kinsella, who later described Croatia as "a gem" with many opportunities for Canadian workers, the newspaper states.
Meanwhile, further international links were announced yesterday, with American firm Forbes revealing its latest magazine project.
A Forbes Croatia publication is set to produced, with an initial print run of 24,000 copies due for its first issue.
Europapress Holdings will assist production, with the company's chairman, Nino Pavic, claiming the magazine will "target the needs of the nation's domestic media market", reports Forbes.com.
