Mobile costs to be reduced in Croatia
17 January 2008
Visitors to Croatia will soon be able to benefit from reductions in mobile phone tariffs.
According to heise online's website, the development has come after EU Commissioner Viviane Reding's demand for mobile network operators to cut tariffs for downloading data abroad.
The news provider noted: "O2 has now chosen to pre-empt potential regulation of this market by reducing prices for SMS, MMS and mobile data services in Europe and selected other countries, and is even offering a flat rate in the form of a usage cap."
In the particular case of O2, prices for mobile data usage will be reduced from March.
Meanwhile, prices for sending text messages from Croatia and other destinations are expected to fall as soon as next month for contract customers.
"From the start of the summer holiday period in June, data usage abroad should cost a maximum of 17.50 euros [£13] per day, irrespective of the volume of data transferred," concluded heise online.
The Croatian National Tourist Board operates a service called Croatian Angels, which puts individuals in contact with English-speaking travel specialists when they dial a designated number from anywhere in the country.
