Montenegro and Serbia 'top festive destinations'
19 November 2008
Montenegro and Serbia are rapidly becoming the must-visit destinations for the Christmas period, according to a travel expert.
The countries are remerging as festive countries for people who are looking for short-haul holidays which are outside the eurozone, TravelMole states.
Graham McKenzie, managing director of the internet site, says destinations outside Europe but still close to the UK will remain popular and the Christmas travel market is "holding up well".
"I think Montenegro and Serbia are places that are remerging on to the tourism scene, again with relatively low-cost flights and good air connections," he adds.
Mr McKenzie states people are looking for somewhere different that is still close to home.
A recent survey from search engine Kayak.co.uk found that despite the credit crunch people are not cancelling their winter travel plans.
In addition, almost a quarter of people said they would prefer a romantic break in Europe for their Christmas break.
