No place in Rome for Croatian as Zagreb Open begins

Croatian tennis star Ivo Karlovic has dropped out of the Rome Masters after a brave fight against world number one Roger Federer.

The Swiss player eventually won 7-6, 6-3, but only after Karlovic had saved four break points in the eighth game and narrowly lost a tie break.

Federer admitted he had struggled to cope with the Croat's notorious big serves at the start of the match.

He said Karlovic's serve differed from any other on the tour because of the player's size and the way he backs the ball up to the net.

"He puts a lot of pressure on you because he can hit all four corners easily," Federer continued.

"I think I did well in the second set. I created many opportunities, many more than he did, and that's why I started to relax as the game went on."

Meanwhile, the Ladies Zagreb Open is underway and British players have started well according to the Lawn Tennis Association.

Kate O'Brien, the country's number one, was one of three victorious Brits in the first round at the $75k tournament.
