Olympic win for Croatia

The Croatian men's water polo team continued their strong Olympic form as they beat Germany yesterday.

After winning their opening two matches the squad continued their 100 per cent record with a 13-5 victory, in which Damir Buric scored three goals.

The 2007 world champions, who are now topping group B and are expected to progress, could return to Zagreb as winners, it was claimed.

German coach Hagen Stamm told the BBC: "Croatia is, at the moment, the favourite for the final."

The team are next in action on Sunday when they take on the US.

Elsewhere in the Games the country's basketball team could still qualify, despite a 77-53 loss against Argentina yesterday.

Back-to-back wins in their opening games, against Australia and Russia, mean a win over Lithuania on Saturday could lift the squad to top of group A.

Croatia are currently third in the standings with two games left to play.
