Queen's eastern Europe visit spurs tourism
31 October 2008
The Queen's recent visit to eastern Europe has spurred people to look to countries like Croatia for their next holiday.
According to figures from the flight search engine Skyscanner, the royal visit to Slovakia and Slovenia has in turn seen a 41 per cent increase in those interested in a trip to the region, in comparison to last year.
Zagreb came eighth in the top ten flights searched for on the website in eastern Europe.
Barry Smith, co-founder and director of business development at Skyscanner, says the destinations now offer "good food, beautiful natural scenery, skiing, beaches [and an] excellent night life".
He also adds the countries in the area also have "an exotic appeal" and give travellers "better value for money".
Mr Smith said eastern Europe was previously ignored by many Brit holidaymakers but that this is now changing.
The source states Zagreb is ideal for those who want a high fashion, high culture location which has a "buzzing cafe scene".
An article for VacationCruiseTravel.com recently said the peak time to travel to the country is between July and August but those who like a quieter destination should visit in May, June or September.
