Secret Montenegro city revealed
20 November 2008
Podgorica in Montenegro has been picked as one of the secret cities of Europe which are worth a visit.
SkyScanner selected the undiscovered locations on the continent, which are not on the well-trodden tourist trail but are great holiday destinations.
The flight search engine states Podgorica is "largely unknown" to UK travellers but has been recommended by industry insiders for a while.
According to the source: "The spectacular Dajbabe monastery is a must and the seaside resorts of the Adriatic are not far away."
Those looking for a winter break can also ski in the nearby Durmitor mountain range, in addition to visiting the second deepest canyon in the world.
VisitMontenegro says Podgorica is the official commercial and cultural centre of Montenegro.
Also on the list of secret cities is Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which SkyScanner describes as a "great value destination".
The country is also attractive during the winter months, as skiing is a popular pastime, since the nation hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics.
