Semi-final place for handball team

The Croatian men's Olympic handball team moved into the semi-finals with a win over Denmark yesterday.

A 26-24 victory, in which Mirza Dzomba scored six times, was enough to ensure a passage through to the next phase on Friday.

The squad, who are reigning champions, remain on course to travel home to Croatia as gold medalists once again, after winning four of their six matches so far in the competition.

France are the squad's next opponents after they edged past Russia yesterday, in a 27-24 win.

Meanwhile, the nation's footballers continued their preparations for the World Cup qualifiers by beating Slovenia.

Croatia fell behind twice, but a Dario Srna goal and a double from Ivan Rakitic gave Slaven Bilic's team the victory.

September's qualification opponents England, who travel to Croatia on September 10th, needed a last minute Joe Cole strike to earn them a 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic.
