'Strong growth' expected in Croatian property

The appeal of Croatia has been further highlighted by an expert saying there may be strong growth in its property market over the next ten years.

Investment Group Croatia has said while the country is not suitable for buying and "getting out of in two years time", there are good signs property will demonstrate very strong growth in the longer term.

Andrea Marston, general manager for the company, predicted an expansion of more than ten per cent per annum for the next few years.

She commented prices are low enough to tempt investors from the UK, with location and amenities being very important in how costs fluctuate.

"Prices do vary and of course it does depend on the amenities and the absolute location but you can buy, for example, a four-bedroom villa with a pool for 300,000 euros [£241,000]," Ms Marston remarked.

According to figures from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in October 2008, there were 2.92 million visitors to the country in August 2008, which was a rise of four per cent from the same month the previous year.
